I feel safer when I go out because of stop and search

Mete Coban has written why action on knife crime makes him safer going out with friends

Knife Crime in recent years has been a major problem for young people. In my opinon, I think the increase in stop and search is a really good way to tackle this problem. Because in the space of 6 months, 3,400 knives have been taken off people. This is 3,400 more knives that could have been used to cause serious damage.

Speaking as a young person, I think this is great news because it gives me much more confidence to go out. I am less worried about what is going to happen to me. Taking knives off people that carry knives gives a clear message to let go of knives. I hope that the fact that being caught with a knife means up to 4years in prison scares people into not carrying knives at all. .

Labour has announced £5 million to help tackle the knife crime that will help the police to take action against people that carry knives. I think this money can make big difference on our every day lives by making us feel safer. But people in local communities need to work with the government to tackle these problems. We can only really tackle knife crime of all of us - young people, ,local communities, government work together, so it is really important that we get our views heard.

I’d be interested in what you would like to see done with money where you live to stop knife crime.
