Labour: Supporting young people

Labour is the party that supports the aspirations of every young person in Britain. Here are a few examples of the kind of progress Labour has made to help young people.

More young people are at University than ever before

270,000 young people across the country have benefited from Education Maintenance grants which help students stay on in education or training

The number of apprenticeships has more than trebled since 1997, increasing to more than 255,000

Young people will have access to new and improved youth facilties in every community and be given the support they need to have their voice heard under plans unveiled in Labour’s Ten Year Youth Strategy

Young people are are acheiving some of the best ever results at 11, 14, and 16

The National Minimim Wage increase has benefited over 1 million people

Every young person is guaranteed a place in training, an apprenticehip or sixth form

Affordable housing is a priority for Labour with plans for 3 million more homes and  5 eco towns. These plans will help thousands of young people get a foot on the property ladder

Tougher and longer sentences, more prison places, action on re-offending, and neighbourhood policing are among the measures helping to reduce crime
